Insiders have been speculating for some time that the iPhone 14 line could get two notch cutouts instead of the traditional notch. At the same time, the front camera is allegedly placed in one cutout, and the FaceID system is in the second. The design of this solution assumed the presence of one round and one oblong hole in the display. A new leak from an “anonymous whistleblower” reveals that two display cutouts will appear as one solid hole when the iPhone’s display is active. In the future, this information was confirmed by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg.
It is noted that Apple intends to turn off the pixels between these two notches in order to create a continuous black space. The source also suggests that the company “intends to visually expand the dark areas around the cutouts to accommodate content.” In other words, the iPhone could very well use that black space and change the size of the notch depending on the purpose.
This is true. It looks like one wide pill shaped cutout. Having that separation would look odd during use. https://t.co/SrAtYQsENx

According to 9to5Mac, Apple plans to use this space to display the green and orange camera and microphone lights currently in the status bar. This can make privacy indicators much more obvious than they are now. In doing so, users will be able to click on the indicators to see a list of applications that have accessed the microphone or camera. It’s also reported that the iPhone’s camera app could be tweaked a bit, moving the expandable control bar to the top of the screen.
These rumors are consistent with recent published patents that describe the separation of the phone’s IR emitter from the main cutout. Whether these rumors are true, we will find out in a week. The Apple Far Out event is scheduled for September 7th .
