On the eve of the presentation of the iPhone 14, which will take place tomorrow, Transcarpathian customs officers revealed an attempt to import brand new iPhone 13 worth a million hryvnias into Ukraine, bypassing declaration and taxation, the State Customs Service of Ukraine tells the details on Facebook.
The incident occurred at the Luzhanka customs post on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border – a 53-year-old Ukrainian tried to import a batch of 21 brand new iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max without proper declaration and payment of taxes. The total value of the cargo is more than one million hryvnias. Returning from Hungary, the driver of a Mercedes GLE 350 selected the “green corridor” during customs control, thus declaring that he did not have goods subject to mandatory declaration.
However, when checking the personal belongings of the Ukrainian, who were in the car, customs officers found undeclared iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max in the amount of 21 pieces.
In relation to the offender, a protocol was drawn up on the grounds of part 2 of article 471 of the TCU. The sanction of the article provides for the imposition of a fine in the amount of 30 percent of the value of these goods. The undeclared gadgets were confiscated pending a decision on the case by customs.
Previously, confiscated iPhones and other electronics confiscated by DMSU were sold at ProZorro auctions in separate cases. What fate awaits this particular batch of 21 iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, so far we can only guess.
