The design of the fourth generation Nissan X-Trail has changed somewhat compared to its predecessor, but retained the recognition features. Signature design elements stand out on the exterior: a panoramic sunroof and a V-shaped grille. The SUV received expressive headlights built into the front bumper with daytime running lights and direction indicators located along the line between the door and the body. The rear pillar is made in the form of a dolphin fin.

The new Nissan X-Trail received the e‑POWER system. According to the manufacturer, it allows you to get the properties of an electric car (instant transmission of high torque to the wheels, high dynamism, quieter movement) without the need for constant recharging.

The e-POWER system in the X-Trail consists of a high-capacity battery and a powertrain integrated with a variable compression gasoline engine, a generator, an inverter and a 150kW front electric motor. A 1.5-litre petrol turbo engine with a power output of 150 kW (204 hp) is used as a gas generator and the wheels are driven by an electric motor for instant linear accelerator response. Thus, the engine will always operate in the optimal range, which ensures high fuel efficiency in urban conditions. Nissan notes that the e-POWER powertrain guarantees a quiet ride. For example, at a speed of 40 km / h, the sound in the car is 8 dB lower than that of competitors. The electric motor allows you to accelerate to a speed of 100 km / h in 8 seconds, and the maximum speed is 170 km / h.

An all-wheel drive version of the fourth generation Nissan X-Trail will also be available, containing electric motors on each axle with a total output of 213 hp. In this case, the SUV picks up speed of 100 km / h in 7 seconds for a five-seat model and 7.2 seconds for a seven-seat one. The maximum speed of the all-wheel drive modification reaches 180 km / h.

For lovers of the classic internal combustion engine, the X-Trail version will be available with a 1.5-liter turbo engine with variable compression ratio, which traditionally drives the wheels. The engine will have a power output of 120 kW (163 hp) and 300 Nm of torque and will only come in a front wheel drive configuration. Power is sent to the wheels via an Xtronic continuously variable transmission. During quiet driving or light acceleration, the engine switches to a high compression ratio to optimize fuel consumption, and in situations that require more performance from the car, the compression ratio is reduced.

Another interesting feature is the e-Pedal Step mode, which allows you to control only one pedal. Now in the city the driver will not be forced to frequently move his foot between the gas pedal and the brakes. The e-Pedal Step system helps you accelerate and brake with just the gas pedal. The system must first be activated using the switch on the center console. After that, you can accelerate by pressing the gas pedal, as usual. Upon releasing the accelerator, the e-Pedal Step will brake the X-Trail by 0.2 Gs, turn on the brake lights, and slow the vehicle down to a “creep” speed rather than a complete stop.

The infotainment system supports manual connection of a smartphone, has built-in Wi-Fi for 7 devices, as well as the NissanConnect app for interacting with the car and monitoring its systems. Declared support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with the ability to display content on a 12.3-inch display. There is also a 10.8-inch head-up display that displays driver assistance systems and traffic information on the windshield at the level of the driver’s field of vision.

The new fourth-generation Nissan X-Trail features a 60:40 split second row that slides forward, USB-A and USB-C connectors for second-row passengers, folding third-row seats to accommodate people up to 160cm tall .When the two rear seats are not in use, the total boot space is 585 liters, 20 liters more than its predecessor.

The new SUV will be available in 10 exterior colors with five two-tone combinations for a total of 15 choices. The fourth-generation Nissan X-Trail is already available for order in some European countries starting at €38,000.
