Qualcomm continues to translate its lineup to new naming realities. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 have been updated today with the 4nm Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 (successor to Snapdragon 695) and 6nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 (Snapdragon 480). “Four” is aimed at the so-called mass segment, and “six” fills a niche between Snapdragon 4 and 7. At the same time, both platforms rely primarily on the capabilities of artificial intelligence, cameras and gameplay. So, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 has a seventh-generation AI engine and a third-generation Sensing Hub (x3 in AI computing capabilities compared to the previous generation), a triple 12-bit Qualcomm Spectra ISP with declared support for cameras up to 200 MP and an Adreno GPU (the model is still unknown) with buns to optimize the gameplay and improve the quality of the final picture in games. His partner in this sense is more modest, while support is announced, for example, for 108-megapixel cameras.
Speaking of structure, Snapdragon 6 Gen includes 4 Cortex-A78 cores and 4 Cortex-A55 cores, peak clock speed is 2.2GHz. An increase in processor performance of 35% is declared, and a graphics performance increase of 30%. There is a Snapdragon X62 5G modem, Fast Connect 6700 package with Wi-Fi 6E, support for Quick Charge 4+. Smartphones with this chip will be able to offer a 120Hz Full HD+ display, LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 memory, 4K HDR video recording at 30fps. The first smartphones are expected in the first quarter of 2023.
As for the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, that is, the eight-core architecture provides 2 Cortex-A78 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores (up to 2 GHz), a performance increase of 10% (CPU) and 15% (GPU) compared to its predecessor, 5G- Snapdragon X51 modem, Fast Connect 6200 package with Wi-Fi 5. An ideal smartphone with this chip will offer a 120Hz Full HD + display, LPDDR4X + UFS 2.2 memory, a 108MP camera with video recording at 1080p@60fps. The first commercial devices with Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 will appear before the end of this month. We will talk about personalities separately.
