With a notably redesigned iPhone 14 Pro , the base models also debuted today. True, this time instead of the mini model, which did not perform well in sales, Apple prepared the iPhone 14 Plus. By and large, this is the same basic iPhone 14, but with a screen enlarged to 6.7 “with a notch and a more capacious battery. However, the base model itself has noticeably changed this year. No, visually it is the same: a bang and two cameras diagonally, but what!
The main 12-megapixel sensor of the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus became larger (the pixel size reached 1.9 microns), and the aperture increased from f / 1.6 to f / 1.4, which together improved low-light performance by 2.5 times relative to the iPhone 13. A twofold increase in this indicator was also received by the shirik, and even the frontal. She, by the way, received an aperture increased to f / 1.9 and autofocus. The icing on the cake of the camera system upgrade was the Action Mode movie mode. This is a hardware-software system that allows you to produce an ultra-stabilized picture, similar to GoPro and other action cameras.
Now about a couple of other significant innovations. First, all iPhone 14s now allow rescuers to be contacted via satellite in an emergency. This option will be sold as a subscription and will be available to residents of the US and Canada in November. Secondly, Apple continued to rid the concept of a smartphone from unnecessary elements. This time around, SIM cards are the victim: in the US, all iPhone 14s lack a SIM tray.
In terms of the chipset, Apple this year decided to strengthen the bundle regarding the “firmware” by installing last year’s Apple A15 Bionic in the lower models. True, it should be clarified that we are talking about a more powerful modification with 5 graphic cores from last year’s firmware. OLED screens did not get 120-Hz frequency, and the brightness remained at the same level: 1200 nits at the peak.
The palette of colors has changed slightly: the standard black, white and red options are complemented by purple and blue, but pink and green are no more. Devices will hit the shelves in versions of 128, 256 and 512 GB, while the base iPhone 14 will be available at the old prices: $799, $899 and $1099, while the iPhone 14 Plus is offered for a hundred more: $899, $999 and $1199 respectively.
