NVIDIA has officially announced the GEFORCE RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 graphics cards based on the new Ada Lovelace architecture. The RTX 4090 will go on sale October 12 for $1,599, while the RTX 4080 starting at $899 will be available in November.
The top-end GEFORCE RTX 4090 graphics card will receive 24 GB of GDDR6X memory. NVIDIA claims it is 2 to 4 times faster than the RTX 3090 Ti and will consume the same amount of power. NVIDIA recommends a PSU of at least 850W for PCs with a Ryzen 5900X processor. The RTX 4090 processor includes 16,384 CUDA cores and operates at frequencies of 2.23 GHz – 2.52 GHz.
NVIDIA offers two GEFORCE RTX 4080 graphics cards: with 12 GB and 16 GB of GDDR6X memory. The company claims they are 2 to 4 times faster than the existing RTX 3080 Ti. The 12GB model starting at $899 will include 7680 CUDA cores and run at 2.31GHz-2.61GHz.
The $1,199 16GB RTX 4080 will get more CUDA cores, 9728, and frequencies from 2.21GHz to 2.51GHz. The first model will require a 700 W power supply, the second – at least 750 W. Both video cards will go on sale in November.
The Ada Lovelace architecture will offer Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology version 3. NVIDIA has more than doubled the frame rate in Microsoft Flight Simulator using DLSS 3. According to Jensen Huang, DLSS performance improves significantly even in CPU-intensive games. DLSS 3 will be available in over 35 games and apps starting in October.
RTX 4000 graphics cards will require a 16-pin PCIe 5.0 power connector – the card will be fully powered by a single connection. The package will include an adapter for connecting three (or even four) 8-pin connectors. ATX 3.0 16-pin power supplies from Asus, Cooler Master, FSP, Gigabyte, iBuyPower, MSI, Thermaltake and more will be available from October.
