French automaker Peugeot has unveiled the new (third) generation of the e-208 electric hatchback, one of the brightest representatives of its class and the most popular models in Europe. If compressed, the electric supermini received the same “stuffing” as the “big brother” e-308.
In terms of specifics, the design has not actually changed, and all the main improvements are concentrated inside. At the end of last year, the Peugeot e-208 supermini received a significant increase in range – the figure increased by 6.5% or 22 km in absolute terms. Now, the French automaker has decided to go even further in this direction and “shove” the hardware base from the recently announced e-308 into a compact hatchback.
The heart of the 2023 Peugeot e-208 is a more powerful electric motor that delivers 156 horsepower (115 kW) or 20 bhp. (15 kW) more than before. The torque is the same 260 Nm as its predecessor. There are no specifics on the dynamics of acceleration yet, and it is likely that the new Peugeot e-208 will be a little more agile than its predecessor, which took 8.1 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h.
Also stylish French supermini received a new 400-volt battery with a usable capacity of 48.1 kWh (full – 51 kWh). This is an additional 10.5% to endurance – on a single charge, the baby is able to cover about 400 kilometers (according to the WLTP measuring cycle). Supports charging up to 100 kW – in this case, the battery is charged from 20% to 80% in 25 minutes. There are three driving modes (Eco, Normal and Sport) and two regenerative braking modes to choose from.
One of the main benefits of the Peugeot e-208 in 2021 was a heat pump that worked in conjunction with a humidity sensor located at the top of the windshield. In the new model, the manufacturer also introduced a few nice touches, such as 16-inch wheels and tires with low rolling resistance, as well as optimizations in the gearbox, which will allow you to win extra kilometers outside the city.
In the interior of the electric car, the realm of screens, touch and physical keys, combined with classic elements of traditional French design. There is a main display in the instrument panel and an additional one on the center console.
Peugeot names the e-208 Europe’s best-selling B-Class EV in 2022 and hopes the updated 2023 model will help keep demand strong. Among the key advantages, the manufacturer calls a record high energy efficiency – the average consumption is only 12 kWh per 100 km. Compared to the original version, released at the end of 2019, the new one is able to travel 17.65% more on a single charge and consumes 15% less energy.
The new generation Peugeot e-208 will go on sale in 2023, but, unfortunately, there are no details on prices yet.
