The state enterprise Energoatom plans to create a network of 120 car electric charging stations – the relevant decision was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers at a meeting on September 27.
According to the plan, within two years NNEGC Energoatom will put into operation 120 charging stations for electric vehicles: 40 high power (160 kW) and another 80 medium power (60 kW) in regional centers and on the main highways of Ukraine.
Ukrainians quite actively switched to electric cars even before the war (in Ukraine, electric cars are exempt from VAT and import duties at least until the end of 2025), and the fuel crisis and further price increases in the spring led to a rapid increase in demand for electric models. Now in Ukraine there are more than 100 thousand electrified cars (this is together with “hybrids”), so the question arises of developing the necessary infrastructure.
“Energoatom has significant spare capacity for the safe production of cheap and clean electricity. The creation of a national infrastructure of charging stations will not only stimulate the spread of private electric transport, but also the development of new services using electric vehicles, for example, in the field of delivery and logistics. At the same time, the development of electric transport and related infrastructure means reducing Ukraine’s dependence on fossil fuels, reducing the level of harmful emissions into the atmosphere, and improving the overall environmental situation.”
German Galushchenko,
Minister of Energy of Ukraine
Sales of electric vehicles more than doubled in 2021, with 6.6 million electric models shipped to the market (about 9% of total passenger car sales), according to the International Energy Agency. It may also be recalled that in June the EU agreed to a complete ban on the sale of new fossil fuel vehicles from 2035. At the same time, Eurostat reported that in 2020 the number of registered battery electric vehicles (BEV) for the first time exceeded 1 million – from 2013 to 2020 their number increased 20 times.
You can also recall that in 2021 the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine proposed to ban the sale of gasoline and diesel cars from 2030, when this initiative stopped at the stage of public discussion. Even earlier, the agency proposed changing the DBN and making charging stations for electric vehicles mandatory on all public roads.
Ministry of Infrastructure: In Ukraine, there are already 3244 charging stations for electric vehicles from 6 providers and 15 operators (one car for one charging point)
