Research firm International Data Corporation has compiled a quarterly report on the state of the tablet market in the first quarter of 2022. As with smartphones, a report on which can be read here , shipments have declined compared to last year. In the first three months of 2022, global tablet sales were 38.4 million units, down 3.9% from last year. This is explained by the fact that in 2020 and 2021, when switching to remote work, people were actively purchasing tablets, and therefore many do not see the point in updating the gadget.
Apple remains the undisputed and unchanging leader among tablets, having sold 12.1 million devices from January to March, which is 31.5% of the total. But, compared to 2021, things are not so good, because deliveries decreased by 4.6%. Second place goes to the Korean Samsung, which managed to increase its market share by 3.5%, while shipping only 8.1 million tablets, which accounted for 21.1% of the total market. Third place went to Amazon, which increased sales by 9.6% – it overtook China’s Lenovo, whose shipments fell by as much as 25.9% compared to last year. But Huawei is in fifth place – its performance also decreased by 17.2%.
iPad is the market leader in tablets
But despite the overall decline in sales, IDC experts believe that the tablet market is starting a new growth due to new players such as OPPO, realme and vivo. The same Xiaomi, after a rather long pause, released new models of the Mi Pad family.
