Called a gift for spies since launch, the Apple AirTag continues to live up to its moniker. At the end of April, 17-year-old Madison Gaston and her mother Jennifer spent the day at the Disney World amusement park, and in the evening, when they went to the parking lot to the car, the girl’s iPhone reported that someone else’s AirTag was following them. When she opened the app, she saw that the tag had started chasing as early as 19:09, and the warning notification didn’t arrive until 23:33. Fortunately, the girl had heard about the dangers of tracking through AirTag, explained everything to her mother, and together they began to turn out pockets and bags in search of a tag. Finding nothing, they called the police and drove to the hotel.

Alas, the police did not manage to find the mark, although, judging by the map, it remained somewhere in the parking lot. And while the possibility of a malicious plant is not ruled out, the situation could very well be an accident, since at Disney World thousands of people walk the same routes every day, often with an AirTag tag on their backpack or key ring, which can falsely alert nearby iPhones. However, there are cases where such means of protection from stalkers have proven useful, especially in light of the fact that “silent” modifications of the tags are being sold right now, in which the speaker is artisanally turned off.
