Belarus wanted to help Russia in the war against Ukraine, but without sanctions. It didn’t work out - Belavia planes were on the US “black list”

Since April, the planes of the Belarusian state airline Belavia have been on the black list, which creates serious inconvenience for the ally of the terrorist country, Russia . Recently, a very curious situation occurred – Israel took and refused Belavia flights, and complained on its website that it was now forced to cancel flights to Tel Aviv.

It is significant that Belavia CEO Igor Cherginets called this decision of the Israeli authorities “sudden and surprising” and pretended not to understand why the Israeli side did this. As they say, “oh, what happened?”.

The fact is that back in April, the US Department of Commerce published clarifications – because of Belarus’ support for the war that Russia unleashed in Ukraine, restrictions were introduced on April 9 on the use of American aircraft by Belarusian airlines. At the same time, it is American Boeings that form the basis of the civilian fleet in this country. Belavia did not comply with the order, and already on April 14, the United States added seven Boeing 737 aircraft of the Belarusian air carrier to the “black” list at once.

If at least any company in the world tries to refuel, repair, provide spare parts and any kind of service for sanctioned aircraft, it risks itself falling under harsh sanctions – fines, loss of export privileges and other restrictions. And since Israel is a longtime partner of the United States, Belavia was refused.

Interestingly, the Minsk-Tel Aviv route, which Belavia wanted to restart , was supposed to be a record for the duration of the flight. If earlier a flight with transit through Ukraine took 3 hours, then after the start of the war, its length should have increased to 9 hours with an intermediate landing in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku, and a flight through Russia and Kazakhstan.
