Birthday Girl: 10 Things You Didn't Know About the Cambridges' Daughter, Princess Charlotte

On May 2, Princess Charlotte, the only daughter of the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William, celebrates her seventh birthday.

Princess Charlotte is the second child of Kate and William, she was born on May 2, 2015 and became the first granddaughter of the Prince of Wales Charles and the fifth great-granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II.

We remember that special day for the Cambridges when their first and so far only daughter Charlotte was born .

1. Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge was born at St Mary’s Hospital in London at 8:34 am London time in the presence of Prince William. Duchess Catherine and Prince William arrived at the hospital at 6 am. The Duchess herself was driving, probably at that time Catherine’s contractions had not yet begun. Toward noon, Kensington Palace reported that the Duchess was in labor and was proceeding without complications. A little later it became known that Katherine gave birth to a daughter. The weight of the baby is 3710 grams. She was born in the same hospital as her older brother George in 2013.

2. The news of the birth of the princess was announced by the royal herald. According to tradition, he appeared on the wing of the hospital and announced the news by ringing the bells.

3. On May 4, Buckingham Palace announced that the newborn was named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana (after her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II and grandmother Princess Diana of Wales).

4. Charlotte is fourth in the line of succession to the British throne after her brother George , father William and grandfather Charles.

5. Princess Charlotte’s baptism took place on July 5, 2015 at St Mary Magdalene Church at Sandringham in Norfolk. The ceremony was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby. The ceremony was held in a circle of close and dear people, it was attended, of course, by Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, his wife Duchess Camilla, Catherine’s parents – Michael and Carol Middleton and many other members of the royal family. Princess Diana was baptized in this church in 1961 and Princess Eugenie in 1990. The royal family also comes here every year for the Christmas service. William’s close friends Tom van Straubenzee and James Maid, Catherine’s longtime girlfriend Sophie Carter, as well as two family members, the Prince’s cousin Laura Fellowes and the Duchess’s cousin Adam Middleton, became the princess’s godparents. In total, the princess has five godparents, but her older brother Prince George has seven.

6. At 2 years and 7 months, Princess Charlotte began attending London’s Willcocks Nursery School. At the time of entering the garden, the princess was already attending sports clubs and playing tennis (Princess Diana’s favorite sport).

7. At the age of 4, the princess went to Thomas’s Battersea preparatory school, where her older brother George also studies. Children spend the first school year in a more playful way. They explore more than they learn, and there is a creative approach to classes. Outdoor activities, visits to museums and galleries are also practiced. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took the children to school together. But Prince George in 2017 was accompanied to the first class only by his father, Prince William, since the Duchess Catherine was pregnant with her third child and suffered from severe toxicosis.

8. Princess Charlotte was called the favorite of Prince Philip (wife of Queen Elizabeth II), probably due to the fact that little Charlotte is very similar to the Queen in her mischievous character.

9. Princess Charlotte loves to dance and has been accustomed to the attention of the public since childhood. It seems that she is the only one of the Cambridge children who is not shy of cameras and always waves her hand in a friendly way at the lenses of photographers.

10. The fifth birthday of the daughter of Cambridge was celebrated with a loud party . It was held via Zoom video link, which was joined by Charlotte’s 94-year-old great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, as well as her husband Prince Philip, as well as numerous relatives and friends of the girl. The seventh anniversary of the princess will be celebrated, most likely in a narrow family circle.

Recall that on April 23, Kate and William shared a photo of the youngest son Prince Louis , he was four years old. And on April 29, the couple celebrated the eleventh anniversary of their wedding.
