So, in the period from 2018 to 2020, retail sales increased from 25 thousand to 230 thousand copies, and in 2021 they amounted to 207 thousand (a 10% decrease due to the lack of high-profile releases due to the COVID-19 pandemic). At the beginning of the year, ERC expected sales growth in 2022 due to the expected release of Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring and Gran Turismo 7. But with the outbreak of war, the market situation deteriorated significantly.
According to the ERC, in the first weeks of the war, weekly sales fell 10 times compared to pre-war results. Last year, an average of 3,980 PlayStation game discs were sold weekly. But such a decline was observed only in the first weeks of the war. After the liberation from the invaders of the northern regions of Ukraine and the opening of more stores, sales of discs increased. And now the figures for monthly disc sales are about 4-5 times lower than pre-war results. It is assumed that the situation could be even better, but sales are negatively affected by supply problems.
It is also noted that over the past three months, the most popular game for the PlayStation is Horizon Forbidden West.
