The smartphone market in Russia began to change rapidly after the well-known events began. Having polled the largest Russian retailers, the Kommersant publication shares a fresh report on the results of April. According to him, sales compared to the same month a year earlier collapsed by 30% both in units and in money. At the same time, according to MTS, there was a sudden reshuffle in the top three: Samsung and Xiaomi retained the first and second lines (26 and 20% respectively), but Apple gave way to Realme, taking 10.3% of the market against 11.2% at the brainchild of BBK. On the fifth position was Honor with a share of 5.7%. By the way, the average cost of a smartphone purchased in April remained at the level of 2021 – about 24,000 rubles.
Svyaznoy confirms this data, indicating that Realme has grown from 4 to 11% in units and from 2 to 7% in money over the year, and in the case of Apple, on the contrary, it has decreased from 16 to 10% in number and from 44 to 31% by revenue. The explanation for the drop in sales by a third and the rise in demand for budget solutions is explained by the desire of citizens to hold on to savings, as well as problems with logistics. It is reported that the supply of devices continues and is regular, but “not in the same volume as in previous years.” The situation is worst around the iPhone: “with the current demand, they will last for two to three months,” says a retail source. In other words, by mid-summer in Russia there may be a shortage of iPhone.
