A phrase with a touch of black humor – nothing foreshadowed trouble, it was Friday the 13th. – known to all. But why does this date scare us so much?
Friday the 13th can really have a negative impact on the events of our lives, or is everything connected with it nothing more than prejudices and superstitions? This is what astropsychologist Valentina Wittrock tells.
Facts from history
In fairness, it must be said that on Friday, which falls on the 13th, quite often – and this is confirmed by historical facts – all sorts of misfortunes and disasters occur. This combination of the number and day of the week received a negative reputation after October 13, 1307, the King of France, Philip IV the Handsome, actually beheaded the Knights Templar, ordering the arrest of all its top. Seven years later, all of them, including the Grand Master of the Order of Jacques de Molay, were burned at the stake.
If we talk about the affairs of bygone days, then it was on this day – more precisely, on August 13, 1521 – that the Aztec empire fell, and on November 13, 1868, the composer Gioacchino Rossini died. Friday the 13th also saw the bombing of Buckingham Palace by German aircraft (September 13, 1940), the crash of the Douglas C-54 airliner, during which all fifty passengers on board died (June 13, 1947), a hurricane in South Asia that claimed 300 (!) Thousands of human lives (November 13, 1960).
If we talk about events closer to us, then late at night on January 13, 2012, the cruise liner Costa Concordia ran into the reefs in the Tyrrhenian Sea. The sea at that time was calm and the shore was close, yet thirty-two people died. On November 13, 2015, several terrorist attacks took place in Paris, including the massacre in the Bataclan concert hall. A total of one hundred and thirty people became victims then, and all of these were young people between the ages of twenty and thirty years.
Friday is an unlucky day
Not the best reputation and Friday as a day of the week. Our ancestors believed that on Friday it was impossible to clean the house – it was proposed to do this on Thursday or Saturday, and have fun – there is even a folk sign: whoever laughs on Friday will cry on Sunday. The reason for such an attitude towards Friday is known and understandable – it was on this day of the week that Jesus Christ was crucified, therefore humanity – especially its Christian part – is wary of him.
Baker’s dozen
There is a reason for our wary attitude towards the number “13”. Now in the account we use the decimal system, which is based on ten units. In ancient times, dozens were used in counting – that is, twelve units. The number “13”, following after twelve, symbolized the unknown, which means danger, which is why it was even called the “devil’s dozen”. In Tarot cards, it is called “Death”, and in spiritual numerology it is commonly believed that this is the number of crazy people. Also – by analogy with the Last Supper – there is a sign: if thirteen people gather at the table, one of them will die soon – Agatha Christie described the corresponding story in her story “The Death of Lord Edgware” (its second name is “Thirteen Companions”).
What is holodine and how to eat it
Despite all of the above, “Friday the 13th” in a negative direction does not work for everyone. Such a date is nothing more than a Holodine, that is, a stable three-dimensional holographic thought-form that exists in the collective unconscious. It took root there not immediately, but over thousands of years. In the course of its long history, mankind has accumulated facts that are consistent with the belief that such a day can be dangerous. At some point, the number of observations turned into quality, and “Friday the 13th” a priori began to be considered dangerous. Since then, people have not thought about how and why they have a negative attitude towards such a day – we perceive its danger as an axiom.
Who believes in what
But in fact, “Friday the 13th” is negative only for those who believe that misfortune is possible on this day – that is, in his perception of the world there is a corresponding holodine. Simply put, only what we believe in happens to us. If in the subconscious of a person there is a belief that “Friday the 13th” is a terrible time, he has every chance to be convinced of this, and vice versa. In the first case, it is advisable to give up vigorous activity on such a day, without extreme necessity not to leave the house and not communicate with unpleasant people and energy vampires, in the second, simply ignore it.
