Wireless speaker Tronsmart Bang: review of a powerful boombox with light and music effects

Modern and powerful (60 W) Tronsmart Bang wireless speaker with IPX6 protection. A great option for outdoor recreation and in the company. The wide handle allows you to conveniently use the column as a portable one, and TuneConn technology makes it possible to combine several columns at once to work from one source.

A few words about the Tronsmart brand itself, which has been on the market for a long time. In fact, this is one of the most decent wireless speaker options among Chinese brands. In addition, the speakers, as a rule, will play loud and clear, and most importantly – they are very inexpensive in terms of their cost. Even from the first Mega models, my personal acquaintance with Tronsmart speakers began. Since then, USB Type-C fast charging and proprietary Tronsmart SoundPulse sound enhancement technology have appeared. Top models, such as Bang, additionally support the TuneConn stereo pairing method. I note the presence of IPX6 protection – this helps a lot when using the speaker on the street.

  • Features: multi-speaker networking, LED lighting, smartphone app
  • Dimensions: 36.1 x 15.0 x 18.3 cm
  • Weight: about 3 kg.

The packaging is interesting – it is a large cardboard box with a lot of information, with a carrying handle. A portable speaker of this level is a really good option as a gift to a friend or colleague. And don’t forget yourself – it’s convenient to take the column with you on trips to nature, to the country house, etc.

The Bang speaker package includes instructions and a warranty card, as well as two cables – for recharging and for connecting an external audio source.

The appearance of the Tronsmart Bang speaker resembles classic boomboxes, except perhaps without cassette decks and disk drives. This is a fairly large body (length 36 cm), and a wide handle from edge to edge of the speaker. Almost the entire surface of the column itself is occupied by a protective grid-grill.

There is a Tronsmart logo on the handle and on the bottom of the mesh in the corner. Advanced control – a panel with rubberized buttons and additional keys (EQ, Connect, backlight control). On the back, under a protective seal, there are interfaces: AUX, USB-C, USB-A, card reader.

The column has two large woofers (4 ohms, 30 watts each) and a pair of full-range speakers. Passive emitters are located on the sides, allowing you to “pump” in time with the main ones. The declared total sound power is 60 watts. The speaker is really loud for its size.

The developers at Tronsmart Bang used an interesting “chip” – LED panels based on light guides. One U-shaped strip is located along the entire width of the body on the facade, two more annular panels are around the passive radiators. During operation, you can activate light and music effects, backlight or turn off the light through the application or from the keypad.

There are several indicators on the keypad. This is the level of charge of the built-in battery (4-segment, 25-50-75-100%), power, activated equalizer. From the panel, you can switch the playback source (“M”), activate sound or lighting effects, pair several speakers together via TuneConn. If you activate the Tronsmart SoundPulse sound enhancement function, additional processing is enabled using a separate audio signal processor (DSP), which allows you to get sound with high detail and less distortion.

In order not to get confused with the controls, it makes sense to study the instructions. Everything is detailed and illustrated, especially in terms of double taps and additional functions.

Once again, I note that the Bang column allows you to play music from MicroSD memory cards, from USB drives. Without problems, you can use external audio sources (DACs, players, smartphones, etc.). I note the possibility of the speaker working as an external battery for recharging other gadgets – you can “feed” your smartphone in nature.

The column can be easily carried with one hand. Do not forget that Bang is quite “weighty” – its weight is 3 kg. A good column cannot be easy. So heaviness is good.

A powerful pack of rechargeable batteries (7.4 V at 10800 mAh) is installed inside, which allows you to work for a long time offline. The average operating time from one full charge is up to 15 hours (measured at a volume level of ~ 50% with the backlight turned off). If you activate the backlight mode, then the operating time is reduced to 8 hours (also at ~ 50% volume). Full charge time from USB-C is about 4.5 hours.

Quite interestingly, the backlight works. There are RGB effects here, you can set a static color from the palette, there is also a dynamic mode that activates the intensity depending on the volume of the speaker. Several options for lighting the U-shaped panel.

No less interesting is the illumination from both ends. A very interesting effect, especially with active movements of passive radiators.

As for working through a wireless Bluetooth connection, everything is quite simple. By default, the column turns on in Bluetooth Mode, you can immediately activate the search on the gadget. When connected, both the audio streaming profile and the voice profile are available. That is, you can talk through the speaker and activate the voice assistant.

Connects to both laptops/desktops and smartphones/tablets. Appears in searches as “Tronsmart Bang”. Codec – SBC. There is a display of the level of charge of the built-in battery of the column.

It makes sense to download an additional branded application for smartphones and tablets. We are talking about the Tronsmart application, which activates additional functions on a number of models of headphones and speakers from Tronsmart. Connected via a separate pairing with the speaker, you can update the firmware, read the electronic version of the manual, check the current settings of the speaker, and activate the lighting or sound effects modes.

The speaker starts sounding at about 50 Hz – this is the same “fat” bass that the whole street will hear)) The paired woofers confidently do their job, slightly overestimating the sound characteristic. Broadband emitters give a more or less even picture of reproduction, including the ability to transmit fine details of compositions. Passive radiators focus on the range of 80…120 Hz, expanding the physical zone of sound propagation. The second characteristic – with activated Tronsmart SoundPulse technology, you can pay attention to a slightly raised overall volume level, almost throughout the entire sound range.

Two more measured characteristics of the Bang speaker with activated EQ with the presets “Bass” and “Rock”. A characteristic rise is visible in the corresponding areas of the range. In total, there are 5 types of presets to choose from, as well as 3D sound settings.

I note the declared protection against water level IPX6. The column inside has a sizing of water-repellent material, speakers and passive radiators protect the “inside” from water ingress. The buttons are equipped with a rubber pad, and the interface panel has a thick rubber plug. Neither light rain, nor splashes of water or mud, nor a drop of sweat will damage the electronics. The most it is for the street and for loud friendly gatherings in nature.

If we briefly summarize the test results, as well as the work with the application and the various “chips” of the Tronsmart Bang wireless speaker in the form of light and sound effects, the ability to connect to a stereo pair, then I will say that the model turned out to be very worthy. High-quality sound without frank failures, juicy bass without rattling, powerful speakers (60 W!), convenient interfaces for connecting (cards and USB flash drives, AUX) – all this positively distinguishes the speaker from the background of many similar models. Yes, and a comfortable handle and asks to take the column with you into the open air. Tronsmart Bang is quite a decent option both for every day and for occasional trips to nature and noisy events. Yes, and a great model as a gift.
