The lockdowns in China have had a direct impact on Toyota Motor Company, as it is still forced to temporarily suspend assembly lines in Japan. The world’s largest automaker simply doesn’t have enough automotive components to get back to normal. In June, the production plan had to be reduced from 950 to 850 thousand vehicles.
This was reported today by Reuters with reference to statements by official representatives of Toyota Motor. The reduction of the June plan does not change the global goals – for the twelve months preceding April 2023, the corporation still hopes to produce 9.7 million vehicles. At the same time, Toyota management admits that many uncertainties “prevent looking forward.”
Toyota is going to maintain the selected production volumes of 850,000 cars per month throughout the three summer months. It is simply difficult to look further due to the continued shortage of components and the pandemic. Lockdowns in China will force Toyota to shut down 16 of its assembly lines at 10 locations for a total of five days between this Wednesday and June 3rd.
