ChrisDaCow, an experienced Minecraft player, managed to recreate one of the artist’s most famous paintings after a month of work.
Starry Night is, without a doubt, one of the most famous works of the artist Vincent van Gogh. The painting, painted in oil and unmistakably recognizable even by those who are not very well versed in painting, has been kept at the Museum of Modern Art since 1941. ChrisDaCow, who greatly admires the work of Van Gogh, has dedicated an entire month of his life to recreating Starry Night in Minecraft as accurately as possible. The result, as you can see in the video, is absolutely spectacular.
In another video, he sums up a month of work. In the video you can see the whole process: from the beginning of the concept of the project to its final result. In an interview with PCGamer, ChrisDaCow stated that the result of his work is the fruit of “years of practice and love for the craft.”
ChrisDaCow explains that after the completion of the project, Van Gogh became his favorite artist.
“I started this work because the starry night seems like such a beautiful place to walk. I wanted to be able to look at the city from the inside and really see the sky of Van Gogh’s Starry Night. It’s funny that I wasn’t a big fan of Van Gogh before starting the work, but after creating the whole structure, he definitely became my favorite artist,” he said when asked why he decided to take on this project.
Regarding using perspective to recreate the image, the author comments that he had to build “forced perspective” because Minecraft “isn’t big enough to move the required actual distance”.
Minecraft videos have garnered over 1 trillion views on YouTube. No other game has been able to do this.
