Canon has officially unveiled a pair of mirrorless cameras EOS R7 and EOS R10, which use APS-C format sensors instead of full-frame sensors. Previous models in this series have consistently featured full-frame sensors.
The EOS R10 is the entry-level model of the series and features a 24.2-megapixel Canon APS-C CMOS sensor that the company uses in a wide range of other cameras. Thanks to the DIGIC X processor, the camera is capable of continuous shooting at 15 frames per second with a mechanical shutter and 23 frames per second with an electronic shutter.
The EOS R10 features an updated autofocus system borrowed from more expensive cameras in the series. Thanks to this, the novelty can recognize people, animals and vehicles. There is support for new scene modes, including panorama.
The camera supports 4K video recording at 30 fps by supersampling across the entire sensor width, as well as 4K video at 60 fps with a crop factor of 1.56x. 10-bit HDR PQ video recording is supported.
On the back of the body is a 2.36M-dot OLED viewfinder, as well as a 3-inch 1.04M-dot swivel touchscreen display. There is a slot for a UHS-II memory card, USB Type-C and micro-HDMI interfaces, as well as a microphone jack.
The more advanced EOS R7 boasts a 32.5-megapixel APS-C sensor. Supports Dual Pixel auto focus technology. The built-in DIGIC X processor allows continuous shooting at 15 frames per second with a mechanical shutter and 30 frames per second with an electronic shutter.
2.36M-dot OLED viewfinder and 3-inch 1.62M-dot swivel display. The EOS R7 can shoot 4K video at 30fps using the entire sensor and 4K at 60fps with a crop factor of 1.81x. Supports shooting video with a color depth of 10 bits C-Log 3.
The main differences between the EOS R7 and the EOS R10, in addition to the sensor, are the former has a better display, a pair of UHS-II memory card slots, and support for image stabilization. In addition, the EOS R7 uses a more powerful battery, and the case is protected from moisture and dust. At the same time, the EOS R7 does not have the flash that the EOS R10 has.
In addition to cameras, Canon has announced two new RF-S series lenses that have been optimized for smaller sensors. These are the RF-S 18-45mm f4.5/6.3 IS STM and RFS-S 18-150mm f3.5/6.3 IS STM models, which will be available for $300 and $480 respectively.
As for the cameras themselves, the more affordable EOS R10 costs $980, and with the RF-S18-45mm lens, its price rises to $1100. At the same time, the EOS R7 can be purchased for $1500, and the kit with the RF-S18-150mm lens costs $1900. Both cameras will be commercially available later this year.
