Yesterday, the Asian regions launched the updated PlayStation Plus service, which offers several subscription plans. And the first users discovered a very unpleasant detail: when the tariff is improved, Sony requires to cover the cost of the discount if the subscription was purchased with it. Particularly hard hit were those who purchased PlayStation Plus for several years at once.
Users have complained on social media that when upgrading the PlayStation Plus plan (switching to Extra or Deluxe/Premium), the system charges an additional fee. Later, they found out that this only applies to those who previously purchased a subscription at a discount. For example, if a user bought a year of PlayStation Plus with a 25% discount, then when moving up a level, he must refund this 25%, and then also pay extra for a new subscription plan.
It is also mentioned that Sony Interactive Entertainment detects even discounted PlayStation Plus cards. The company probably releases them during sales periods with a special part number in order to track the data later.
In addition, an existing PlayStation Plus subscription cannot upgrade to a higher plan for only a month or other short term. The transition is carried out only for the entire period. Thus, one Twitter user said that for this, a certain user (screenshot attached to the tweet) will allegedly need to pay more than $ 1000, since his PlayStation Plus has been extended until 2043.
Support from the Hong Kong division of Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed that this is true: if the user wants a higher rate, he must compensate for the discount.
