Microsoft has added a new sidebar to its Edge browser. It adds additional multitasking capabilities.
The new panel in Microsoft Edge includes a series of buttons that give you access to other panels. For example, by clicking the button on the right sidebar, you can open a window for sending an e-mail message, working with a calendar, searching for information on the Internet, opening Office documents. Various useful widgets are also available, such as a calculator, a dictionary, an internet speed test, and a unit converter.
The Microsoft Office bar includes shortcuts to recent Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents and applications. Clicking opens the working window in a new tab. This may help some people improve their productivity. And for those who want to relax, there is a panel with shortcuts for web games.
The Discover panel promises to add “contextually relevant information to any page.” For example, you can evaluate the reliability of a site or see information about what countries people visit it from. For some articles, contextual material is added, and for recipes, a list of ingredients is displayed.
The sidebar supports some customization options. The user can choose which buttons will be shown on it. Microsoft plans to add “new features to the sidebar in the future.” You can call up a new sidebar using the keyboard shortcut Control + Shift + /. It can also be activated through the menu in the form of three dots in the upper right corner of the browser.
