In early August, Microsoft began testing the Xbox Game Pass “family” subscription as a more affordable alternative to the ultimate Game Pass Ultimate plan, which ended up being not exactly family-friendly—you can share it with friends as well. And now the official launch of this new tariff plan called Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family has taken place.
True, this new plan is only available in two countries – Ireland and Colombia. Up to four people can join and access the benefits of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Ultimate Plan (access to the PC and Xbox game library, as well as Xbox Cloud, EA Play, and support for online multiplayer gaming on consoles). And since the cost is shared by everyone, it’s cheaper than buying individual subscriptions. The only condition and limitation is that they must live within the same country. Yes, countries, not households, so this is a rather mild restriction.
Actually, in terms of prices – in Ireland the cost is 21.99 euros per month, and in Colombia it is almost half the price – 49,990 Colombian pesos ($ 11.13 euros per month). For comparison, the regular price of an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription in Europe is 12.99 euros per month, compared to 5.5 euros per person in the “collective” Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family.
At the same time, Microsoft provides the ability to convert a regular Game Pass subscription to a family one – in this case, the full moon of the maximum Ultimate plan turns into 18 days of the “collective” Friends & Family.
How much Xbox Game Pass Friends & Family will cost in other European countries and the US is still unknown. At the same time, The Verge reports that in the US the price will be about $25 per month.
In the meantime, we continue to wait for the launch of Xbox in Ukraine and hope that this event will happen before the end of the year, and the new joint Game Pass for family and friends will definitely not be superfluous.
