Christmas will cost hundreds of pounds more this year as families pay the price of rising inflation.
Higher food prices, soaring energy bills and the rising cost of fuel have led to a cost of living crisis, putting a squeeze on wallets across the country.
This festive season will cost at least £137 more than last year, Telegraph Money analysis has found.
The biggest increase is for presents, which are £72 more expensive than they were in 2020, according to Finder, a price comparison website, and Censuswide, a research company. Adults will spend an average of £548 on Christmas gifts this year, up from £476 last December.
A typical Christmas dinner will cost £4.20 more, according to an average of five large retailers. The bill will go up by more than £15 for those shopping at Morrisons, data from Alertr, a comparison site, has found.
It compared the costs of 18 dinner staples, including turkey, pigs in blankets, potatoes, parsnips, sprouts, cranberry sauce and stuffing.
The basket costs 44pc more at Morrisons (£65.22) than Asda (£44.99), while online supermarket Ocado charged the most at £82.35. Tesco and Sainsbury’s were level on price, at £52.99 and £53.50 respectively.
