My number one style dilemma at this time of year? How to look festive and glamorous without having to limit the amount I pile on my plate because of waistband constriction. I simply can’t get on board with the trend for wearing a jolly onesie on Christmas Day – I need to feel dressed-up. 

But why should that mean forgoing Quality Street at 10am, followed by a three-course lunch, followed by more Quality Street, followed by a turkey sandwich and lots of crisps? Fashion cannot, surely, have evolved so little that it’s unable to deliver on both counts.

It’s been a struggle in the past, but this festive season, I’m delighted to announce the arrival of what I’m calling the Christmas dinner dress. Earlier this year I wrote about the ‘buffet dress’ (a concept lots of you were excited about), and the CDD is its winter equivalent: relaxed and roomy, but still conveying a sense of chic. 

You should never be waistband-conscious in a CDD, nor should it inhibit sofa-lazing capabilities, but you’re also party-ready. Genius.
