Brexit talks got off to a slippery start on Thursday as the EU’s negotiator lost his footing in front of his counterpart Liz Truss in their first face-to-face meeting. 

The Foreign Secretary was hosting European Commission vice president Maros Sefcovic at Chevening House in Sevenoaks for talks about the Northern Ireland Protocol. 

But, with Northern Ireland minister Brandon Lewis also standing by, their European guest slipped on an icy step and took a tumble.
