Manchester City’s draw with Liverpool was one of the games of the season but when the full-time whistle blew it was hard to call who the result favoured most. 

Jurgen Klopp’s team missed the chance to put their title prospects in their own hands with victory, but could feel pleased with a point given the chances City missed. 

City by contrast, kept their noses in front of their rivals with a one-point advantage and better fixtures on paper, but perhaps missed an opportunity to bury Liverpool. 

There is very little to separate the best teams in the country and neither looks like dropping many points before the end of the season.

Jamie Carragher: Liverpool

By full-time on Sunday, psychologically it was a better point for Liverpool. City will feel frustrated as they would have one hand on the trophy if they had gone four points clear. Also, the 14-point lead they had will come into their heads if Liverpool stay with them. I think both teams’ away games will decide it. Don’t forget that City do not need to lose a game to open the door –  a draw could be as fatal.

Sam Wallace: Liverpool

The tougher run-in but all their more difficult games – Manchester United, Everton, Spurs, Wolves – are at Anfield and Liverpool are virtually unbeatable at home. The point at the Etihad was a much more valuable one for Liverpool than City, who had the home advantage. City are formidable but they can throw in the occasional off-key performance, and just a draw in one of their last seven might be enough to swing it.

John Percy: Manchester City

Though recent momentum has appeared to be with Liverpool, City’s run-in should not represent any problems to Pep Guardiola. The only issue could be whether the Champions League obsession affects their focus.

Sam Dean: Manchester City

The ultimate front-runners. Kevin De Bruyne appears to be finding his best form, which is dreadful news for Liverpool, and the remarkable depth across City’s entire squad means they will be well-placed to handle the pressures that come with the final few months of the season. It would be no surprise if they won every league match from now until the end of the campaign.

Chris Bascombe: Liverpool

It is like 2019 again with Liverpool fans, players and staff wishing with every fibre of their being that City will drop another point. Logic – and history – says it will not happen. But are the footballing Gods teasing by arranging for Steven Gerrard and Philippe Coutinho to head to the Etihad for what might be a final day, title decider? If it gets that far, the glimmer for Liverpool is their superior goal difference. Six wins and a draw will get the job done if City lose once. It looks like a long shot, but City may still lament the absence of an Aguero-type player to deliver an Aguero-type moment.

Jim White: Manchester City

So far ahead of the rest are the leading two, there is every chance both pretenders will win all their remaining matches – albeit that Liverpool have to face Tottenham. Which means City, a nose ahead at the moment, will retain their title.

Jason Burt: Manchester City

It would be no surprise if both teams win all of their remaining games. They are clearly far better than anyone else in the Premier League. History has shown that at this stage of the season points are often discarded at the most unlikely places so comparing the run-ins is futile. What may be a bigger factor is how much the Champions League takes out of them both. Manchester City should edge it because they are the better team. But it could be by what it is now: a single point. 

James Ducker: Manchester City

Simply by virtue of City having the more favourable run-in. Both teams could easily win all of their remaining seven games each but there are less potential banana skins in City’s path. That week where Liverpool, having played City in the FA Cup semi-finals, face Manchester United and Everton at Anfield in the space of six days will be interesting. Both United and Everton are basket cases but it will still be a very intense period for Liverpool against two historic rivals. Tottenham will also provide a test. City’s four remaining home games look very winnable and you’d back them to navigate Wolves, Leeds and West Ham away.
