“This is equipment that we want to finish anyway, because we’re waiting for the F-16s,” he told the Politico news website.
He said Slovakia is “in very intensive discussions with our partners” over who would protect its airspace if the fighter jets are shipped to Ukraine.
“After that, we can consider speaking about this equipment with regard to Ukraine as well,” he added.
Bratislava has already sent S-300 air defence systems to Ukraine, as part of a swap deal for the American Patriot missile system.
Slovakia is part of a handful of Nato allies, including Bulgaria and Poland, that still operate the Soviet-era MiG fighter jets, which Ukraine’s air force pilots are trained to fly.
