The President of the Russian Federation agreed in principle to the participation in the evacuation of representatives of the UN and the International Red Cross.
On Tuesday, April 26, during a meeting in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin, UN Secretary General António Guterres agreed to evacuate civilians from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol.
This was reported on the official website of the UN.
“During a tête-à-tête meeting, President Putin agreed in principle to the participation of the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross in the evacuation of civilians from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol,” the message says.
Russian publications that tracked the meeting did not report such an agreement. They quoted Putin as suggesting that the UN and the Red Cross look at how “Ukrainian prisoners of war are being held.”
Recall, earlier it became known that the Russian president said at this meeting with the UN Secretary General about the absence of hostilities in Mariupol . In addition, he assured that the Russian side is in contact with the military, who are in the dungeons of “Azovstal” and who, according to him, “should let the civilians go.”
