Hungary links the beginning of the procedure for blocking aid from the EU budget with its position on the war in Ukraine. At the same time, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called these statements Budapest’s attempts to involve Kyiv in its conflict with the EU, which is inappropriate and unacceptable.
It should be noted that on April 27, the European Commission announced the procedure for blocking finances coming to Hungary from the general budget. This decision of the European Commission is connected with the undermining of the standards of the rule of law in the EU by Budapest.
“Minister Goujas’ response to EC letter on rule of law conditionality: Hungarian voters spoke out clearly on 3 April. We must keep Hungary out of war, make sure Hungarian families don’t pay the price of war and that our children are protected from sexual propaganda,” responded to the decision of the European Commission, the speaker of the Hungarian Prime Minister Zoltan Kovacs on the Web.
This statement by the official Budapest was commented on by Oleg Nikolenko, spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, in a commentary to TSN.
“Budapest’s attempts to entangle its position on Russia’s war against Ukraine in the context of discussions with the EU on the rule of law are inappropriate and unacceptable,” he stressed.
” We call on our Hungarian partners to refrain from such actions , but to work for unity in the EU and, in particular, to support new anti-Russian sanctions that will deprive the Russian military machine of sources of funding,” the speaker of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry added.
By the way, Hungary agreed to the scheme proposed by Moscow to pay for Russian gas in rubles.
