As it became known, during his speech in the City of London on Wednesday, British Foreign Secretary Liz Trass intends to call on Western countries to redouble their support for Kyiv and, in particular, to supply Ukraine with promised heavy weapons, including tanks and planes.
Trass wants to deprive President Putin of the opportunity to declare victory in Ukraine and use the war as a catalyst to establish a new world order.
“If Putin succeeds, it will turn into unbelievable suffering for the whole of Europe, the whole world will face terrible consequences. We will never feel safe again,” she said on Wednesday night.
According to Trass, the situation in Ukraine is balancing and can turn in any direction, so the West should not be complacent about the outcome of the war.
“We will no longer feel safe, so we must be ready for a protracted war and redouble our support for Ukraine,” said excerpts from her speech. “Heavy weapons, tanks, planes – production. We need to do all this. ”
The head of the British Foreign Office plans to formulate a new approach, in which the West will have to spend more on defense. According to her, NATO should become a truly global organization, and economic dependence on countries prone to aggression should be minimized.
The West has underfunded defense for a generation, and the Russian invasion has shown that the security architecture, which was once designed to guarantee peace and prosperity in Europe, has failed in Ukraine, Liz Trass plans to say.
“Let’s be honest: the structure for peace and prosperity has let Ukraine down. Therefore, we need a new approach that combines physical and economic security, helps to build stronger global alliances in which free countries can feel more confident,” he said. statement by Minister Liz Trass.
In addition to the need to increase defense spending within the country, Liz Trass believes that the announced goal of increasing NATO spending by 2% of GDP, which the UK reached last year, should be “a minimum, not a ceiling.”
