The Congress voted for a bill providing for the transfer of confiscated assets of sanctioned persons of the Russian Federation to help Ukraine.
The House of Representatives of the US Congress on Wednesday, April 27, adopted a bill containing provisions that assets confiscated from sanctioned persons should be directed to the restoration of Ukraine.
This was announced in his Telegram channel by the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak.
He specified that 417 US congressmen voted in favor of bill HR 6930, which provides for the confiscation of assets of Russian sanctioned legal entities and individuals.
“It [the bill] provides for provisions according to which funds that have been or will be confiscated from foreign entities that are subject to US sanctions should be directed to the reconstruction of Ukraine and the provision of humanitarian assistance to its population, as well as other types of assistance to our state and its people, including military assistance,” Yermak said.
To enter into force, this bill must be passed by the Senate and signed by the President of the United States.
“It is a framework, does not establish a mechanism, but clearly lays down the political will of the Congress and is the first and very important step towards the upcoming confiscation of Russian assets in favor of Ukraine,” the head of the President’s Office stressed.
We will remind, on the eve of Attorney General Merrick Garland said in the Senate that the administration will apply to Congress with a request to expand the powers to confiscate and liquidate Russian property.
