The head of the government of the British Virgin Islands was arrested because of his involvement in a cocaine smuggling and money laundering conspiracy.
British Virgin Islands Prime Minister Andrew Fahey and Caribbean Ports Director Oleanwyn Maynard were arrested on Thursday, April 28, on charges of drug smuggling in South Florida (USA).
This is reported by Politico, citing federal officials.
Fahy and Maynard arrived at the Miami-Opa-Loca airport to meet with Mexican drug traffickers who were actually DEA agents who were operating “undercover”.
For helping to smuggle cocaine from Colombia to Miami and New York, officials in the island nation wanted $700,000 in cash.
The detention was confirmed in the office of the Governor of the British Virgin Islands, which is an overseas territory of Great Britain.
We will remind, earlier the former president of Honduras Juan Orlando Hernandez, whose term of office expired in January 2022, was brought to trial in the United States on charges of drug trafficking and possession of firearms.
