A missile flight over the South Ukrainian nuclear power plant, caught on a CCTV camera, could lead to catastrophic consequences.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is verifying a Ukrainian report that on April 16, 2022, a CCTV camera recorded a rocket flying directly over the South Ukrainian nuclear power plant.
This was reported on Thursday, April 28, on the website of the United Nations.
IAEA Director General Rafal Grossi said that if the information is confirmed, this incident will have very serious consequences.
“If such a missile changed its trajectory, it could seriously affect the physical integrity of the nuclear power plant, which could lead to a nuclear accident,” he said.
Grossi also said that a report had already been published, which presented conclusions about the situation with nuclear power in Ukraine as a whole.
In particular, as of April 28, out of 15 power units in Ukraine, 7 remain in operation, including 2 at the Zaporozhye NPP, 2 at the Rivne NPP, 1 at the Khmelnytsky NPP and 2 at the South Ukrainian NPP. 8 other reactors are shut down for scheduled maintenance or are on standby.
Recall that the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in Energodar is still occupied, the Russians have already been expelled from Chernobyl, but the risks after their stay at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant increased due to looting and dug up soil in dangerous areas.
