Financial assistance from UN agencies will be paid even in cash.
Ukrainians affected by Russian aggression can receive cash payments from the United Nations, whose agencies will act in coordination with the Ukrainian government.
This was announced on Thursday, April 28, by UN Secretary General António Guterres at a press conference in Kiev.
“We are ready to provide financial assistance in the form of cash payments. By the end of May – 1.3 million, we plan to cover 2 million by August,” he said.
The UN Secretary General stressed that payments by UN agencies will be made in coordination with the Ukrainian government.
“Our role is not to replace the government, but to support the government, because Ukraine is a developed country,” Guterres said.
As of April 28, the UN has already provided humanitarian assistance to 3.4 million citizens in Ukraine, by May it is planned to cover 4 million people, by June – 6 million people.
According to the UN Secretary General, 12 million Ukrainians were forced to leave their homes. The UN supports countries that have hosted more than 5 million refugees, and plans to help 7.7 million Ukrainians who have become internally displaced.
“According to the latest estimates, under the worst-case scenario, 25 million people may need humanitarian assistance before the end of the year. We sincerely hope that this scenario will remain on paper, but we must be prepared,” he added.
Recall that the Ministry for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine has updated the list of united territorial communities located in areas of hostilities or under temporary occupation, encirclement (blockade) as of April 27 this year.
