Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said that the state offered China to become one of the guarantors of security. The minister also said he hoped China would call on Russia for a ceasefire to avoid escalation.
Kuleba once again stressed that the Budapest Memorandum did not bring real security, so Ukraine is looking for an alternative.
The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spoke about this in an interview with Xinhua.
“Now Ukraine is studying the possibility of obtaining security guarantees from the permanent members of the UN Security Council, including China, and other large states. Our proposal to China to become one of the guarantors of Ukraine’s security is a sign of our respect and trust in the People’s Republic of China,” Kuleba said.
He also expressed hope that China will call on Russia for a ceasefire in terms of preventing escalation.
“This will be an important measure to maintain peace and prevent further humanitarian disasters,” the minister said.
Recall that earlier Kuleba said that a security vacuum led to the Russian invasion after Ukraine abandoned nuclear weapons, but subsequently failed to become a member of NATO.
