Subscription iPhone: Apple's new ambitious idea

March 25, 2022, 08:11

The subscription model of software distribution has gained incredible popularity over the past few years among many companies around the world. Apple is moving most actively in this direction, already offering a large list of subscriptions, starting with Apple Music and Apple TV +, and ending with iCloud + and many others. And, judging by data from Bloomberg, Cupertino is extremely interested in making their main brainchild – the iPhone – a subscription service. Instead of fully owning a smartphone, people will use it by analogy with leasing, paying a certain amount of money every month. When a new iPhone model is released, the old one can be easily exchanged by renewing the subscription.

However, Apple is already offering something similar as part of the iPhone replacement program, which implies a 12-month installment plan with the possibility of further switching to a new model at the same rate. The key difference, apparently, will be the size of the monthly payments. Apple declined to comment on the matter, but rumors indicate that the launch of the subscription system is considered for the end of 2022, but may be delayed to 2023.
