Samsung loses Qualcomm orders for 3nm Snapdragon chips in 2023

February 24, 2022, 10:41

It’s no secret that the current 4nm flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset is manufactured by Samsung, and TSMC will take over in the second half of the year. It is expected that the chipset will please with minor improvements and, most likely, will receive a new name (presumably Snapdragon 8 Gen 2). At the same time, Qualcomm is already making plans for top-end chips in 2023, which will be produced using the 3-nm process technology. And this time there will be no separation: all chips will be produced exclusively by TSMC, and the Americans intend to abandon Samsung Foundry services “due to low performance.” A day earlier, it became known that the lithographic equipment of the Koreans produces about 65% rejection. However, Samsung will continue to release Qualcomm RF chips based on the larger 7nm process.
