Not again, but again: Google may return to the tablet market

January 31, 2022, 10:12

Many of you probably remember the time when one of the best Android tablets on the market was the Nexus 7, the brainchild of Google, manufactured by ASUS. Many years have passed since then (almost 10 to be exact) during which Google made only one attempt to re-enter the tablet market with the Pixel C and the odd Pixel Slate on ChromeOS in 2015. Devices did not gain much popularity and the company gave up trying to produce tablets for many years … until this moment. A vacancy has appeared on the company’s website for the position of a senior technical manager with experience in working with applications for tablets. It is noteworthy that in the description, Google mentions the following thesis: “the future of computing is shifting towards powerful and functional tablets.”

Of course, this is not a direct confirmation of plans for the release of Pixel tablets, but the transition to the active development of Android 12L for devices with large screens and the low level of competition in the Android environment may indicate that the search giant is interested in this market segment. One way or another, this will not happen very soon, but for now we offer to plunge into nostalgia with the help of our old Nexus 7 review (2013):
