Askona Power Foot review: foot massager with imitation of manual impact

The feet are the part of the body that is constantly under load, because they have to bear all our weight. That is why, when they come home, it is important that they have a good rest. Massage is best, but let’s be honest, few people have an expert on this issue in their apartment. However, modern technology has given us a worthy alternative – an electric foot massager.

Many models of this wonderful invention are now available on the market, but only a few are really capable of replacing the hands of an experienced massage therapist. One of them is Power Foot, created by order of the domestic company Askona. The device uses various types of influence: pressure, kneading, vibration and heating, providing an integrated approach to foot massage. The user has access to four programs for different tastes and three levels of intensity, and while the device is not used for its intended purpose, it can be used as a heated footrest.

Equipment

The massager comes in a large stylish black box. For ease of transport, a handle is provided on top. The foam holders contain the device itself, its cover, a 36 W power adapter with a 1.8 m cable and a pin connector, as well as instructions. Ascona provides a 12-month warranty for the device.

Appearance

Power Foot is a fairly large device (454.5×358.5×300 mm), which will take up a significant place in the apartment, so the developers made sure that the massager fits well into the modern interior. Outwardly similar to an elongated ottoman, in between uses, the device will look good next to an armchair or sofa. Due to its significant weight (7.3 kg), the unit does not move from side to side during operation. I have no complaints about the build quality, but I didn’t manage to disassemble it without damage.

The case, made of durable gray plastic, rests on four legs with rubber pads. They dampen vibrations, prevent slipping and prevent damage to the supporting surface. At the bottom of the front face there is a connector for connecting the power adapter. It would be logical to place it on the opposite side, since there are usually no outlets under the user.

From above, the device is closed with a removable lid, covered with coarse gray linen fabric with soft filler. So that it does not move out, a pair of pins is provided, one of which contains contacts, and special rubber pads absorb shock when closing. The logo and contour of the heating activation button are embroidered on the fabric. The materials are quite practical: dust and scratches on them are invisible.

Under the lid is a glossy convex panel with oval leg openings. The niches are designed for sizes from 34 to 46, and the device itself determines the dimensions of the foot and corrects the impact, compressing both large and small equally well. People with a high instep will find it relatively difficult to insert and withdraw a limb. Inside, special black socks made of synthetic material are hidden, which are fastened with zippers and Velcro. Periodically, you will have to unfasten and wash them to remove the smell of sweat. Massage rollers are felt under another layer of tissue.

Between the niches there is a control panel with four physical keys: turning on, switching modes, heating and adjusting the intensity. The device can be carried using this jumper instead of a handle.

Exploitation

The first step is to find a chair or armchair of a suitable height: during the massage, the angle at the knees should be straight, and the hips should be horizontal. Then we insert the legs into the niches intended for this: the feet go a little deeper than the ankle. You can take the procedure barefoot, which will allow you to get a little more effect, but since the legs sweat during the massage, the option with thin socks will be more hygienic.

Now turn on the device, select the desired program and intensity level, if necessary, activate the heating. Massage rollers and air cushions, imitating the movements of the hands of a professional massage therapist, alternate kneading the muscles, vibration, squeezing the feet from the sides, from above and in the region of the Achilles tendon. Worked out
almost all the muscles in the foot. The cuffs strongly compress the leg, and the rollers can sometimes even cause tears from the eyes: as in any other massage, discomfort and pain await at first, but then you begin to experience pleasure. The effect is most intense in the area of the middle part of the foot.

During operation, the device emits a hum when the compressor pumps air. It is quite quiet, and will not wake up even the person sleeping next to it. The case does not heat up and does not emit any odor. Massage goes well with watching movies with the family.

Four programs are available, each with a different indicator color:

  • Air cushion for feet and ankles, rollers, high frequency percussion massage (red).
  • Air cushion for feet and ankles, rollers, low frequency percussion massage (blue).
  • Rollers and percussion massage, no foot compression effect (green).
  • Pneumopillows for feet and ankles without the use of rollers (purple).

Each program lasts 15 minutes, but you can change the parameters and interrupt the exposure at any time. In all, except for the third mode, three levels of exposure intensity are available, also displayed by indicators of different colors.

It is worth starting with a weak one (green) if the massage has not been done for a long time, the muscles of the foot are overstrained or have high sensitivity. The medium level (blue) is ideal for daily use. A strong impact (red) can be used for repeated massage when the muscles are already warmed up. The indication is clearly visible even in bright light. The foot does not burn: the heat gradually increases to about 45°C. It enhances the relaxing effect, improving blood circulation and relieving leg fatigue. In addition, this is a great option when you need to warm up cold or wet feet.

After the end of the program, the appliance switches off automatically without beeping. Legs feel relaxed and rested, pain disappears. I used to have an unpleasant problem: in the mornings, when I tried to walk fast, I felt severe pain from muscle strain. In just a week of such a massage, this trouble was gone, and by the evening my legs began to swell much less. The only pity is that the device does not also massage the calf muscles.

As noted earlier, Power Foot can also be used as an ottoman for legs. Not only does the feet, being elevated, improve the circulation of fluids, but also the device, having the functions of heating the lid, will enhance the relaxing effect: it is not for nothing that folk wisdom advises to keep your feet warm.

Conclusion

Power Foot belongs to the category of devices that you don’t even think about buying, but if you try it at least once, you won’t be able to refuse: you want to get these sensations over and over again. It very rarely happens that the massage performed by the device is not inferior in quality to manual massage. The device will be a real salvation for those who spend a lot of time on their feet, suffer from fatigue and swelling. And even while you are not using the massager for its intended purpose, it will take on the role of a stylish heated pouffe. However, you should not take my word for it: just go to the nearest Ascona salon and test the Power Foot yourself – they don’t take money for it.
