Emmanuel Macron admitted on Friday that his rival Marne Le Pen has seized upon anger felt in the country he had failed to quell.

The French president said Ms Le Pen, who is seeking to oust him in Sunday’s election, had used the dissatisfaction of the French public to success in her election campaign. 

“And there we have it. She has made some progress, she has covered herself up by turning this into our problem, and she has managed to draw on this,” Mr Macron told France Inter radio on Friday. 

Mr Macron has been campaigning heavily to win re-election after admitting that nothing was for certain following the first round of the election, which saw the far-Right candidate Ms Le Pen gain ground.

Recent opinion polls show his lead has stabilised, but Mr Macon said “nothing is final until the last minute”.
