The era of the “special operation in Donbass” has shown that the war, which is being talked about by all the media, has already become a taboo in a strange dimension, which hardly anyone could have thought of before.

After all, very quickly in Luhansk appeared topics that can not be spoken aloud, but only in the kitchen. It is about how to save a husband, son or father who can be captured at any moment and thrown into the war against Ukraine without preparation.

Tragedies are big and small in every family where there are men. Probably, the war did not bypass any family here in any way, but it is in the presence of men and mandatory mobilization that the problem is gaining momentum.

The realities of life in Luhansk provide two options for salvation. Men are either hidden from the war or given armor, hoping to save lives. The former are much more than the latter.

That’s why there are shelters with the system in every house. Men aged 18 to 55 are buried – the age of compulsory mobilization. Elderly people, children and people with disabilities, whose disabilities are obvious – lack of limbs, cerebral palsy – feel free on the streets.

Chronic illness, as these two months have shown, is not a good enough reason not to be afraid of being drafted.

Men are buried in the most banal way, as in children’s hide-and-seek games – behind closed doors, in empty apartments of friends, in private homes outside the city, in the villages.

The hideouts are clear to the neighbors, but everyone is playing this game. And talk of war only proves that, despite all the humiliating role for a man sitting at home, the decision was the right one. It is better to be a coward, but alive.

“My son was so afraid of mobilization that he simply did not leave the house for the first month. He was terribly afraid, and his wife had high blood pressure due to his panic. Then my son started leaving the city, and then he was given armor at work. We all barely survived his fear. I even told him from the bottom of my heart: a terrible ending is better than endless horror. I understand my son, but at the same time I brought him up badly if he behaves like that, “my friend said.

My friend is hiding two – a husband and a son. The son went out of town to his family in February. He sits at their house, picks up the phone only for family calls, does not leave the house.

The man is hiding at home. He was fired in February.

The businessman decided that it was better to release him from mobilization than to bear moral responsibility for what happened – they mobilize mostly according to lists from enterprises.

Therefore, many employers immediately calculated all the men, so that during the inspection at the company they were not at all. In the context of this total fear, my friend collects stories of all the dead and wounded, each time making sure she is doing the right thing.

In fact, asthma or vascular disease is not an argument for a mobilization company. At best, the mobilized are sent for two weeks to study, at worst – immediately to the front. Uneducated, poorly dressed, who do not know how to handle weapons.

And – to kill the unmotivated. There are so many stories about the dead that it is a total tragedy that consumes everything.

Families are happy with any injuries that bring men home – lame, mutilated, but alive.

“When her husband was injured, he was taken to a hospital near Kharkiv, where he developed a chronic illness and was told to go home to treat his ailments. So his wife barely found a vehicle to bring him and pick him up,” a friend told me. . There are many such stories.

Those mobilized for the war against Ukraine at the front eat canned food in the cellars, do not even consider it theft, sleep on cardboard and ask to send them clothes.

They need literally everything. Wives are looking for any opportunity to help, to give something to somehow save lives.

It is said that 5 million rubles are paid for the killed, but I have not yet heard a single story about such wealth that fell.

I saw the wedding, when the wounded soldier, who was barely standing, urgently signed. Judging by his condition, his only desire was to lie down, he was poorly on his feet, leaning on a stick.

There are a lot of such hasty weddings now, when it’s not even a feeling that every day can be the last. Just a formal marriage will give some opportunity to claim benefits for the wounded and dead.

Every family knows this rate of payments – for lost limbs, for injuries, for the deceased. Human life began to have its price in ruble equivalent.

Arms and legs began to have their price, like meat in a store. And people sent to fight like this are often called “cannon fodder” thrown to slaughter.

“She’s hiding her son and two nephews. They haven’t left home since February. They live in an empty apartment of friends. The mother of one of them brings them food, they cook for themselves, she takes out the garbage. Nobody is on the street,” is a typical story. which are now many.

When asked where the male doctor of one of the dentists was, the administrator without bills answered that he was temporarily out of work because he was a man.

Hiding and hiding is no longer embarrassing. And this fear of death has become unifying. Women whisper about the common misfortune – war, mobilization. Women work in families or live on the pensions of the elderly.

Many developed neuroses against the background of this total fear and closed spaces.

The stories of the dead only strengthen confidence in the correctness of the decision to hide. Even in those families where husbands and sons worked in the “ministries”, there is fear – everyone is taken away, caught, often “ransom” from the departments are those who came to work last or hold a lower position.

Yes, there is a huge surprise – for what and why. Why are the uneducated thrown at the forefront, why such a strange attitude to human life.

The feeling of future victory has long since changed into fear – what’s next? Nobody knows the forecast. But now everyone is afraid.

At the same time, more than ever, we need to be as careful as possible in our statements and assessments. Next to you are those who hide men and those whose men fight – voluntarily or under duress.

There are those who strongly support Putin’s policy as “the best of the people”, and there are those who simply wait for peace in any interpretation, ready to adapt to any new reality.

There is hatred for Ukraine as well (and you can see local news), and there is a misunderstanding of the actions of local authorities, which drive untrained local men to slaughter, as if for ransom, as if Russian troops are chasing ours in front of them with the unspoken slogan “Why should we die alone? fighting for you ?! ”

Otherwise, the logic of what is happening is simply impossible to understand. And the only thing that unites everyone is fear and anticipation of the outcome of what is happening, because it is impossible to get used to fear.
