Under martial law, immunization is perhaps the most effective method to protect yourself and your children from serious diseases and their consequences.
The health of Ukrainians remains the country’s top priority, and adherence to the vaccination schedule is no exception.
This is mentioned at the Public Health Center.
“Since the first modern vaccine was invented 220 years ago, vaccinations have already saved the lives of many generations, and will save the future. On April 24, 2022, World Immunization Week started. Its goal is to remind the importance of vaccinations for protecting people of all ages from diseases,” — reported in the Center.
Due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, the medical system is focused on helping the soldiers of the Armed Forces and those civilians who have suffered as a result of the shelling of enemy troops. Therefore, in order to reduce the burden on our doctors, it is important for everyone to be more attentive to their health, disease prevention, including through vaccinations.
“If you are now in a safe place – you left the regions where active hostilities are taking place, to safer ones or abroad – make up for the missed vaccinations by age, not only for children, but also for yourself. For refugees and migrants of the Ministry of Health, together with the Center public health have developed recommendations on how to obtain data on vaccinations,” the doctors urged.
Interruption of routine vaccination – according to the national immunization calendar – even for a short period, increases the likelihood of outbreaks of infections and diseases that vaccination prevents.
What vaccinations should be done in childhood and adulthood
In Ukraine, all children must be vaccinated against ten diseases: tuberculosis, polio, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, measles, hepatitis B, hemophilic infection, rubella, mumps. These vaccines are free of charge, because they are purchased at public expense.
All adults should have their diphtheria and tetanus vaccinations renewed every ten years. During martial law, this issue is extremely relevant for maintaining the health of military personnel, as well as the civilian population.
It is important to make additional vaccinations, taking into account the epidemic season against influenza and COVID-19. If you already have two doses, then take care of a booster or additional.
“Vaccination is the only way to protect yourself from potentially fatal diseases and the ability to avoid additional burdens on both the health of citizens and the healthcare system as a whole. Annually, vaccination saves 2-3 million people worldwide from dangerous diseases and annually prevents 1.5 million deaths due to infectious diseases,” the doctors remind.
Today, in the conditions of war, immunization is a matter of national security, since the health of Ukrainians – all together and each in particular – depends on the level of vaccination coverage in the country.
We would like to remind you that during treatment in a hospital, an ultrasound examination prescribed by a doctor is free of charge. Like all other necessary examinations, ultrasound is included in the corresponding package of services. Therefore, the examination can be immediately in the same hospital where the patient is being treated.
