We meet with a friend, we haven’t seen each other for a year, he with a grin takes out a MacBook Air with a very strange sticker on the lid. Like a shell. I immediately take away the laptop, start twisting and turning, examining, touching. A friend asks, are you interested? Yeah interesting. He knows how much I love new things.

And then I hear the story of how two young professionals in different fields decided to join forces and try to do something special for everyday things. Both worked in areas one way or another related to Apple technology, so they decided to try their hand at something related to accessories. Year looked closely and tried to figure out what to do here. I must say that everything has already been done for Apple technology, from penny vinyls for the iPhone to drones for shooting 4K video – you yourself understand that it is very difficult to enter this market with something new. Then someone came across a video about installing stone parts in a Bentley. There was an idea to do something like this for the entire line of Apple laptops.

In Bentley, the part is called Stone Veneers, you can read the details here , in short, the idea is elegant and simple. There is a factory in the county of Crewe in the UK where stones aged 200 million years are processed in a special way, they select different textures, different patterns, and prepare them for installation in a car – it is clear that each panel will be unique, but you can collect similar patterns. The stone looks incredible, there is something in it – well, I don’t know, for me it’s like looking at fire.

And then the idea comes to colleagues – what if they try to look for a factory that can supply stone veneer (with special characteristics), and even add an adhesive base here, make different options, at least, for starters, for MacBooks with different display diagonals? Well, then begins a period of trial and error that is uninteresting for the reader-buyer, but very interesting for me and for the guys.

How they looked for suppliers of stone (found). How they were looking for a suitable, tenacious, but thin adhesive tape (tried for a very long time, found it). How to make it so that when removing the cover from the laptop it does not have to be torn off for an hour (succeeded). The selection of the correct size (succeeded) – taking into account the fact that the MacBook lid is not flat, but slightly bent towards the edges. How to make a cutout for an apple, a cutout for a petal, so as not to break or burn the stone (succeeded). What should be the packaging? What color options do you offer?

A month has passed since our meeting, and I am holding the Relic Form cover for the MacBook Pro 15 in my hands. Or rather, I am holding a very nice envelope in my hands, where all the features of the accessory are indicated. First you need to clean the lid of the laptop – I do it. Remove the bottom of the sticker, it can be easily removed – this is necessary to fit the cover. Make sure that the left and right have the same indents.

I try on, glue, remove the remaining protection, wipe the coating with a miracle cloth, go around the edges so that everything sticks evenly. I got the Camo color option, there is also Karelian Autumn and Black. Here you can see the photos in the gallery.

How does it feel, you ask? The stone is rough, warm, does not cling to a bag or a backpack. If your hands (like mine) grow out of the pelvis, it’s better to ask experienced people to install the cover, I just inspire my comrades with the idea that such a service should be done, and it’s better that it be free. In my opinion, all the colors are VERY beautiful. For the girls, they seem to be preparing a surprise, a pink coating, there were also a lot of experiments.

Naturally, the stone protects the lid from keys and any scratches. The coating weighs 50 grams, the thickness is about a millimeter – that is, neither the size nor the weight practically increase. In ordinary life, the ajar lid of the laptop remained in the same position; from the stone, it does not fall down onto the buttons. And in general, for a week of operation, as they say, the flight is normal. I don’t know what else to add.

I usually ripped off all stickers, all skins, all laptop covers after a couple of days of use. There is only one thought, try later to buy a version of a different color, too good. By the way, now the guys are still experimenting with coatings for the iPhone, they promise to release it in September, it will be interesting to see.

Coatings exist for all current models of Apple laptops, prices – from 4,999 rubles to 5,999 rubles. In the comments, there will certainly be gentlemen with phrases like “Yes, I will make a stone veneer coating myself for this money,” but, alas, it will not work either on my own, or order on aliexpress, or otherwise save money.
