Remember how analysts said a few years ago that the advent of 10nm chipsets would change the world? An article on this topic was even a test task for new authors from one of our colleagues. Years have passed, and the world may have changed, but definitely not because of 10nm chipsets. Moreover, for the largest chipset factory, Taiwan’s TSMC, this process is already in the past: according to Counterpoint, the company no longer produces 10nm chipsets. Its business is based on 7nm and 5nm processes, which account for half of its revenue.
In addition, TSMC receives significant money from the production of cheap processors on older technical processes – from 12 to 45 nm, and this is about 30% of the plant’s income. There are even more ancient technical processes in the assortment of Taiwanese: for example, 1% of revenue comes from chips made using processes of 250 nm and more. To whom TSMC supplies them, Counterpoint analysts do not specify.
