Samsung recently switched to a 3+1 support scheme for its gadgets, which includes 3 Android updates and 1 additional year of security patches for all flagships starting with the Galaxy S10. It seems that the company studied the load on its software department and came to the conclusion that there were no problems, and therefore Samsung is going to take the next step. A screenshot from the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 press release (one of the novelties of the upcoming Unpacked, which, among other things, says that the series devices will receive four Android updates and another year of security patches, is circulating on the Web. A footnote also says that that the new support scheme is also relevant for top-end devices starting with the Galaxy S21 (including S21 FE) Naturally, the Galaxy S22 will also be supported for an unprecedented long time.
Recall that the Galaxy S21 arrived with Android 11 on board, and in November it was updated to Android 12. Now it is known that owners have the right to count on Android 13, 14 and 15, and after that they will receive patches for another year. Google offers the same support option for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, and only Apple has a longer life cycle – the iPhone 6s from 2015 was updated to iOS 15 in the fall. What will happen with the support of a device of a class lower is still a mystery. How important is long-term smartphone support to you?
