Apple likes to focus on the security of the iPhone and the security of the user data stored on it. All the more surprising is the first beta version of iOS 15.4, which includes highly controversial privacy decisions. The fact is that the Cupertinians decided to meet users halfway, finally teaching Face ID to work with masked faces (two years after the start of the pandemic). The security of such an option in itself already raises legitimate questions, which Apple itself does not deny, stating in the function description that “the best accuracy is achieved only when scanning the entire face.”
But that’s not all, because iOS 15.4 also learned how to work with a face in a mask and glasses at the same time, as a special option speaks eloquently. The description for it indicates that we are talking purely about classic glasses for vision correction, while sunglasses will not work. It remains to be hoped that these innovations will not cause a simplified Face ID hack.
