While whistleblowers and fans are pondering the design of the older iPhone 14 Pro , which may lose their “bangs”, Apple is already working hard on the iPhone 15 concept. cutouts and holes in the screen, placing the front camera and Face ID sensors under the OLED panel. The developments of Samsung Display and the Canadian OTI Lumionics, which are designing a new generation of under-screen cameras, will help to realize the idea.
Already, the joint efforts of these companies have led to the creation of a new generation of OLED panels using an alternative cathode structure (CPM, Cathode Patterning Materials). It significantly improves the light conductivity of the display, thereby solving the main problem of the current under-screen front cameras. It is noted that the first commercial solution with this technology may be the Galaxy Z Fold 5, expected in 2023, and Apple may soon use it in the iPhone 15 Pro – however, only for Face ID sensors: the frontalka will remain visible. And if the experiment turns out to be successful, as early as 2024, Apple may release a completely full-screen iPhone without visible cutouts in the display.
