Equipment

The blender comes in a black cardboard box. The author never ceases to rejoice at the change in the design of the packaging of Redmond products: the information is detailed and complete, and most importantly, it is decorated with fonts of two or three styles and one color, so that the box does not seem lurid. After carefully examining and reading the text, the user will get an impression of the appearance of the device and get acquainted with its characteristics and features. The box is equipped with a carrying handle.

Inside the box, the blender and its accessories are firmly fixed with two thick foam inserts. The body, jug and documentation are packed in plastic bags. After opening, the following were removed from the package: the engine compartment with a fixed block of knives, a blender jar with a lid and a set of documentation – an instruction manual, a warranty card, promotional materials.

At first sight

Redmond RSB-3402 is quite compact compared to other stationary blenders. The cylindrical engine compartment has a height of 20 cm, a diameter of about 15 cm. It is made of black plastic. There is a speed switch on the front.

On the back of the case, we see a hole for storing the cord. When laying, the cord just needs to be pushed into the compartment.

At the bottom of the motor unit are numerous ventilation holes, a sticker with information about the device and four low legs with suction cups. Suction cups keep the blender in one place during operation and dampen the resulting vibrations.

The place where the pitcher is fixed is a socket with sides 4.5 cm high. There are three soft silicone inserts along the perimeter, which means that, coupled with suction cups at the bottom, the device should not vibrate at all. During the experiments, we will see how well this idea is implemented. Also at the bottom there is a sensor for the presence and correct fixation of the jug, which means that the device will not turn on if there is no working container or improper assembly.

The jug is installed from above by aligning the marks on the motor block and at the bottom of the jug base and turning clockwise until it stops. Three holes with latches are located on the top of the inside of the socket.

The jug is very impressive both in appearance and in weight – 1.9 kg. It is equipped with a one-piece handle and spout for draining the finished product. Volume marks in ml and ounces are marked on opposite sides of the outer walls. The measuring step is 250 ml and 8 oz.

Now let’s look inside the container. On the inner walls there are four protrusions designed to provide more uniform and efficient mixing. The knife block is attached to the jug using a conventional threaded connection. Three pairs of blades of different lengths are oriented in different directions at angles to the horizontal. The cutting edge of two pairs of long blades has a sawtooth shape.

The base with a knife block is unscrewed easily. So, the author, not possessing remarkable strength, effortlessly coped with this task. A silicone gasket is put on the edge of the knife block and, as it were, wraps it. Thus, the part reliably protects the motor block from leaks from the jug.

The lid, which closes the jug, has a hole in the center with a diameter of 5 cm. The hole can be closed with a cap, which serves as a measuring cup. Its volume is 50 ml, marks are made on the wall in increments of 10 ml. On the sides of the cover there are two rows of rubber seals. The lid is tightly held on the jug not only due to seals, but also due to fixation – on the edge of the jug there are two protrusions that fit into the corresponding grooves on the edge of the lid.

In general, we were pleased with the results of a thoughtful inspection of the Redmond RSB-3402 stationary blender. The device is carefully made, we can not present any comments on the assembly. The design is typical, all the components of the blender are interconnected reliably and in an understandable way.

Instruction

The document is made in the traditional Redmond style. The slim A6 brochure contains operating information in three languages. Russian is presented first. Studying the document will not take much time, if, of course, the user wants to do it at all.

On the first pages you can get acquainted with the design of the device and the name of its individual elements. Then there are diagrams of assembly, disassembly and operation of the device. Algorithms are explained further in the text. The contents of the instructions are typical: safety measures, recommendations before starting operation, rules for use and care. Definitely useful will be a description of the functions and limitations on the duration of continuous operation.

Control

Controlling the Redmond RSB-3402 blender is a simple and straightforward process. When the device is connected to the network, the indicator of readiness for operation, located around the circumference of the speed controller, lights up in blue. The regulator that controls the operation of the blender can be in five positions:

  • 0 – off;
  • 1, 2, 3 – three successively increasing speeds when moving to the right from 0;
  • P – start of the pulse mode. Movement to the left of 0. At maximum speed, the blades rotate only as long as the user keeps the knob in the “P” position.

Indeed: very simple and clear.

Exploitation

Before starting operation, you should perform a number of standard actions – remove the device and all its accessories from packaging materials, thoroughly clean the parts that come into contact with food during operation, dry and assemble the blender. The engine compartment can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth. The appliance must be installed on a flat, hard, dry surface.

The assembly of the blender is carried out in an intuitive way. A block of knives is installed at the bottom of the jug, which is then fixed by the base. The parts are connected using a conventional threaded fastener.

The preparation of raw materials before grinding consists in fulfilling a number of standard requirements: remove large bones or parts of the product that can damage the knives, and cut into pieces. The blender successfully copes with the grinding of fairly large pieces of fruit. So, we cut the tomatoes into 4 parts, a hard apple into 8. If a sufficient amount of liquid was added to the processed products, we did not notice the sticking of individual fragments on the blades of the knife block. However, the blender does not cope well with grinding thick and viscous masses such as pate or minced meat. This aspect will be described in more detail below.

A blender can be used to crush ice. He copes well with this task.

The maximum duration of continuous operation is 3-5 minutes. The recommended break between switching on is 10 minutes. The device is equipped with protection against overload and overheating. If the blender stops working, it is necessary to turn the speed control to position “0”, unplug the machine from the mains and let it cool for 30 minutes. During testing, automatic overheating protection worked several times. This happened during the preparation of pate and liver soufflé. Moreover, in both cases, the recommended time of continuous operation was not exceeded. Power also did not reach the peak rate. The motor was ready to restart 20 minutes after the protection tripped.

The glass jug allows you to process products of any temperature. Of course, you should not allow a sharp temperature drop in the blender bowl. Also, the instruction does not recommend pouring boiling water into the jug.

The blender is equipped with a misassembly protection, which means that the device will not start working without a correctly installed jug.

Blender operation and control is very simple. Assembly and disassembly are carried out in seconds. It is extremely convenient when leaving that the knife block is easily separated from the jug. When chopping meat products, you can easily wash the veins or pieces of meat wrapped around the knives. During the experiments, no excessive vibration of the device and strong splashing of the crushed products were noticed.

Care

Wash the food contact parts of the blender immediately after use. The instruction recommends hand washing the jug, knife block and base. The engine compartment should only be wiped with a damp cloth. The manual does not say anything about the dishwasher, but we see no obstacles to using it to wash a glass jug, after removing, of course, the knife block and base.

It is forbidden to use abrasive products and chemically aggressive substances for cleaning. When caring for knives, you need to be careful, because the blades are quite sharp.

You can also use a quick clean. To do this, pour 500 ml of warm water into a jug, drop a little detergent and start the pulse mode. After a while, turn off the appliance, remove the jug and rinse it thoroughly under running water.

Our measurements

The power of the blender depends both on the set speed and on the density and quantity of processed raw materials. The maximum power of 740 W was recorded when grinding raw chicken liver with vegetables. Shortly thereafter, the overheating protection tripped.

To measure the power, pour 1 liter of cold water into a jug and run the blender at different speeds. Learned the following results:

  • 1st speed: ≈300 W
  • 2nd speed: ≈400W
  • 3rd speed: ≈418W
  • pulse mode: ≈410 W

The noise level can be estimated as average for blenders. Definitely Redmond RSB-3402 cannot be called very loud. However, if you want to talk, then it is better to do it before or after making a cocktail.

Chopped tomatoes

In a standard blender test, we grind 500 g of tomatoes and note the time during which the best possible result is achieved for the device under study. The volume of the Redmond RSB-3402 jug allows you to process more tomatoes, but we decided not to deviate from the methodology.

They cut the fruits into pieces and started grinding from the first speed. After 10 seconds, the tomatoes were crushed to a liquid state. Without stopping work, we switched the blender to the second, and then the third speed. In total, the device worked for exactly one minute. The maximum power was 400 watts.

Tomatoes are crushed as a whole to a homogeneous state, individual pieces of the product are not found in the mass, but there are unground seeds and pieces of peel. Continue blending for one more minute at third speed.

Additional whipping had an effect on the result in the most positive way – almost all the bones were ground, the pieces of the peel became much smaller. The mass is whipped, saturated with air, lush.

Salt was added, mixed with a couple of impulses, then poured into a glass, freshly ground black pepper was sent on top. A wonderful refreshing drink is ready.

Result: excellent.

Banana milkshake

Banana – 1 pc., Milk – 200 ml.

A large peeled banana weighing 144 g was broken into pieces in a blender glass. They added milk to the banana and set the jug on the motor block. Whipped for 30 seconds. The first 10 – at the first speed, the second and third 10 seconds, respectively, at the second and third. The maximum power was recorded at 406 watts.

The finished drink is thick, fluffy and uniform in texture. Not a single piece of banana was found in the cocktail.

Result: excellent.

Celery, orange and apple smoothie

To test how successfully the blender will cope with fibrous and tough fresh products, we decided to make a smoothie with such a strange set of ingredients. To prepare the drink, they took one apple, one orange and one stalk of celery. The apple was peeled and the core was cut out of it. The celery stalk was thoroughly washed, the ends were cut off and cut into short pieces. The orange was peeled and cut into large pieces. Place the prepared foods in a jug and add 100 ml of apple juice.

Within 15 seconds after the start of work, individual pieces of food turned into a homogeneous mass. At first they worked at the first speed, then they transferred to the second. In total, smoothies were prepared for one minute.

The drink turned out perfectly whipped. Hard apple and fibrous celery are crushed to indistinguishable pieces in the total mass. The consistency is homogeneous, thick, whipped. A smoothie with a rather unusual taste, probably not everyone will like it, but in general it turned out to be very curious.

Result: excellent.

Well, when it comes to chopping soft foods, making smoothies and smoothies, the device does a good job, which means it’s time to move on to more difficult tests.

ice pick

180 g of ice was placed in a jug.

After five short impulses, the lid was opened and saw that almost all the ice had been reduced to crumbs. Several small pieces of ice lay at the bottom under the knives.

They gave me a couple more impulses. Pieces of ice, seen the previous time, remained in place.

The result was a fine ice crumb. We can make only one remark: perhaps due to the friction force that occurs when the blades move, the ice noticeably melted right in the process of grinding.

Result: good.

Chicken liver pate

Onions were fried in vegetable oil, chicken liver and grated carrots were added to it. After a while, we covered the pan with a lid and stewed the vegetables with the liver well. Salted and peppered at the end. Cool and place food in a blender jar. The weight of the ingredients ready for processing was 710 g.

They began to grind in short, literally 2-3 second cycles at the first speed. I had to turn off the blender and rake the liver with vegetables under the knives with a spatula, since the blades, apparently, chopped what fell under them, and then pushed the food up and rotated idly. If a special pusher were included, the device could not be turned off, but push the raw materials directly to the knives. Thus, we worked for about five minutes (the duration of the motor was 1 min. 22 sec.), And then the overheating protection worked. The maximum power was fixed at a figure of 628 watts. The characteristic smell of an overheated appliance emanated from the engine compartment.

After 20 minutes, butter was added to the almost crushed pate and they tried to turn on the blender. The device continued to work as if there had been no shutdown. Since the mass was almost homogeneous, the pulses became a little longer – 5-8 seconds, but a single movement of the pate mass still did not work. For a while, the mass in the jug stirred, but later it still froze almost immobile, and the knives spun in vain. Nevertheless, we still prepared the dish. The second grinding cycle took about three minutes and 53 seconds of motor time.

The pate is not homogeneous enough, in the mass there are separate small pieces of vegetables and liver. In general, the structure is rough.

Result: medium.

The blender showed excellent results when making smoothies, even from fibrous and tough products, but it does not cope very well with thick masses. You can cook a pate with it, but you should be prepared for a rather laborious event and an insufficiently delicate structure of the finished product.

findings

Externally, the Redmond RSB-3402 blender makes a good impression. It is relatively compact, equipped with a capacious glass bowl, easy to care for and simple to operate in general. The noise level can be assessed as low for stationary blenders. It is extremely convenient for compact storage, the presence of a compartment for the cord.

However, it was not without drawbacks. The manufacturer’s statement about the high functionality of the device and the possibility of cooking minced poultry or meat with it turned out to be somewhat presumptuous. The blender is great at smoothies, even with the addition of hard or fibrous products, it can be used to make pureed soups, sauces and baby food, but it did not do very well with the preparation of pate.

The blender is good in its price range, but the test result once again confirms our numerous blender testing experiences: if the consumer decides to move from sauces and smoothies to more serious culinary tasks such as pâtés, quenelles or legume dishes, the device should be chosen more solid.
