21 Bridges is a crime thriller from Game of Thrones director Brian Kirk. The tape was produced by the Russo brothers, known to us from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (they were responsible for two Captain America films and staged the final parts of Avengers).

Actor Chadwick Boseman in “Black Panther” (Black Panther) is remembered for a long time, but that’s just in other films after Marvel, he has not yet appeared. A new action movie with his participation was a chance to make a good statement about himself and determine his future career. So far, Boseman’s performance left a good impression, and the film itself did not fully live up to the hopes placed on a rich action.

The plot of the picture shows detective Andre (Chadwick Boseman) from New York. When he was a little boy, criminals killed his police father. Now he is a grown man who has become famous for his ruthless attitude towards lawbreakers who encroach on the lives of cops.

One night, André is called to a crime scene where two unidentified men shoot the police in cold blood, taking with them kilograms of cocaine. He gives the order to blockade Manhattan and every bridge that connects the island to the city. Andre only has a few hours to catch the intruders. In this he will be helped by a new partner from the drug control department (Sienna Miller), who, together with Andre, goes on the trail of the fugitives.

Showing the introductory scenes with criminals, the director hints that there is some set-up behind the theft of drugs. Both those who fled and those who pursue them will have to find out the cause of what happened.

Although “21 Bridges” holds a mystery, it is served without measured detective lines. Director Brian Kirk is trying to show a spectacular action movie with chases, gunfights and hostages that fell under the arm. That is why it is a bit disappointing in the film that the creators did not show the scale of the transport collapse that could be provoked by the order to block Manhattan. In fact, this did not particularly affect the island, and no one made any attempts to escape through the water. Perhaps the operators simply did not have suitable locations for the development of this topic. As it turned out, part of the filming took place in Philadelphia, so there was not much room to turn around.

Everything is clear with the locations, but there are a few questions left for the script. It has a couple of plot holes that you pay attention to after the session. In addition, it is not entirely clear why the creators showed the backstory of the main character, who, in theory, during the assignment should turn into a ferocious killer. Such rumors are circulating about him in the police, but in reality the character of Chadwick Boseman is an extremely thoughtful, non-aggressive and positive character.

However, the shortcomings of the script cannot be called flagrant blunders, so the dynamic presentation of the plot covers them. Other well-known actors also appear in the frame, diverting attention to themselves. This is Jonathan K. Simmons, leading the dialogue with the main character, and Sienna Miller, who is involved in the chase with might and main.

As for Chadwick Boseman, the actor did an excellent job in one of the final scenes, taking advantage of the fact that his face is taken close up. Naturally, the action movie “21 Bridges” will not be a film in which the actor’s efforts will be appreciated, but in the future I would like to see him in at least one serious dramatic role. Perhaps Spike Lee’s new war drama, which stars Boseman, will be just such a project.

Well, “21 Bridges”, which you can watch right now, is quite a normal film for one evening trip to the cinema. It does not feel the influence of the Russo brothers, but the tape performs the functions of an action movie with a little secret in the plot.
