Review of uncompromising audio system Hyundai H-MC280

A large outdoor Bluetooth speaker with serious capabilities – the Hyundai H-MC280 portable audio center. It is a portable audio system with separate LF-MF-HF channels, several interfaces for connection, a built-in equalizer, karaoke functions, and all this is battery-powered and has an operating time of up to 6 (!) hours continuously.

If you purchased the Hyundai H-MC280 audio system, then get ready right away – the packaging is quite voluminous, and the weight of the speaker with the kit reaches 10 kg.

The package includes a power supply (15V / 3A), a remote control, as well as a detailed user manual. The instructions give examples of connecting through various interfaces, as well as working in the guitar combo amplifier and karaoke mode.

The appearance of the Hyundai H-MC280 audio system is quite brutal. It looks like a floor concert acoustics with a vertical arrangement of channels, with a large mixer console. Separately delivers a handle and a pair of wheels for transporting the column “around the stage”.

The top control panel resembles a DJ mixing console. There is a display, and buttons for selecting modes / playback control, and adjusting the volume of three input channels at once (mixing), as well as a general equalizer for 3 groups (LF / MF / HF).

In addition to the usual and convenient wired and wireless interfaces (Bluetooth and Aux / Line-in), the column provides for the connection of two microphones at once (Mic1 / Mic2) for group performance of karaoke songs and the ability to connect an electric guitar (GT). In the latter case, the Hyundai H-MC280 speaker acts as a guitar combo amplifier. There is also an FM tuner and the ability to play from USB drives and MicroSD cards. To select the mode and playback source, you can use the remote control or the corresponding keys on the panel.

The handle integrated into the top panel is a really handy option for moving the speaker. It looks very organic, and it’s convenient to hold the column, especially considering the pair of wheels on the bottom of the case.

The wheels are simple, plastic and slightly reminiscent of suitcase wheels. But they perform their function, especially if we recall the mass of the H-MC280 speaker system as much as 10 kg. There are also rubber pads that protect the case from scratches when installed outdoors.

Management is intuitive and without instructions. The central selector provides quick and comfortable adjustment of the overall playback volume. You can adjust the tone of the sound on the LF / MF / HF channels with the corresponding slide resistors on the right side of the remote control – on the equalizer. For input channels – microphones and a guitar mixer, separate volume controls are provided, which is very convenient.

The column is charged through a separate round connector. This is a standard DC5525 with an input voltage of 15V. A hardware power switch is provided to prevent battery drain during periods of inactivity. I note that microSD memory cards are supported, as well as USB flash drives.

The speakers are covered by a wide front mesh with a large cell. A phase shifter is provided on the rear side of the speaker housing. The case is plastic, the internal wiring to the speakers is visible.

Another highlight of the Hyundai H-MC280 model is the presence of dynamic backlighting. The lighting of the woofer and midrange zones, as well as the horizontal light panel, are thought out. Color and brightness change during playback.

The backlight performs the function of a color and music installation – with the Hyundai H-MC280 column, it is quite “able” to arrange a disco both indoors and outdoors.

To connect the speaker to a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth, activate the corresponding mode on the panel. In the device search, look for the name of the column receiver “H-MC280”. We confirm the pairing, check the settings. Of the supported codecs – SBC. There is no voice channel and built-in microphone for answering calls (this is for the better).

The situation is similar with connecting the speaker to a desktop computer or laptop. We are looking for Bluetooth devices in the settings and add “H-MC280”. I have a Hyundai H-MC320 audio system connected in a similar way, which I use as the center channel of a home theater.

The declared frequency range is from 180 Hz to 20 kHz. The frequency response of the column clearly shows the work of a pair of speakers – bass and midrange, which form two rises in the corresponding areas of the characteristic, as well as auxiliary high-frequency components. Phase reflex resonance at 120 Hz. The speaker sounds very loud – it’s not even for a home, but for a large room (hall, gym, stage, etc.). Given the plastic case, as well as the resulting characteristic, it is difficult

The work of the equalizer is clearly visible on a couple of characteristics below. This is an overestimation / underestimation of the LF channel, as well as an increase in the HF. It is quite possible to choose the sound for the tasks – for karaoke / songs, for voice accompaniment (matinees, holidays, etc.), as well as for working as a guitar “amp”.

Since I mentioned a similar outdoor audio system Hyundai H-MC320 , for comparison, I will show the main differences. Model “320” is more “home”, in a fabric design and in a compact body. Hence the lower sound power compared to the H-MC280.

Hyundai H-MC320 cannot boast of the same rich set of interfaces (there is only Line-in, Bluetooth and radio). The Hyundai H-MC280 speaker looks more brutal and more adapted to street “gatherings”.

The “320” model has a much more modest illumination of the top panel. Just compare the H-MC280’s RGB lighting effects, which are noticeably brighter and more varied.

A few words about the application. This is not only loud music for the company in the evenings or indoors. As a sound source, you can connect a computer, DAC or audio player via an analog input, use a wireless Bluetooth interface, or play songs from drives / memory cards.

The built-in battery allows you to take the speaker with you, for example, to nature or to an event. The speaker can work up to 6 hours on a single charge continuously, or you can connect it to the mains power supply via the included adapter. The Hyundai H-MC320 audio system is a good choice for the toastmaster and host of the festive event. Yes, and for karaoke it is very useful – you can connect two microphones at once. Fans of playing the electric guitar should appreciate this model at its true worth.

So, the Hyundai H-MC280 audio system is a very worthy option for your money, especially considering the number of interfaces and the overall playback volume. According to its capabilities, the speaker simultaneously replaces a mixing console, an amplifier, concert speakers, a color music installation and a karaoke system, allowing you not only to feel like a DJ, but also to become a real host of events.
